Porter Robinson is the new face of Apple Music‘s danceXL playlist, ahead of his highly anticipated sophomore album Nurture due out April 23rd — and he’s using the platform to speak out on mental health. For the producer, his newly released single “Look at the Sky” symbolizes hope. The production comes through as uplifting and inspiring, but he actually wrote it at his lowest point. He opens up in a recent statement: I wrote this song at my lowest point emotionally, when I thought I couldn’t make music anymore. I wasn’t sure if my existence would have any meaning if I couldn’t make music. In the lyrics, I’m sort of imagining what life would be like once I was on the other side of all that fear and anxiety and sadness. I’m so glad I had hope and persisted. The danceXL update also includes music from MK, Alison Wonderland, Imanbek, Gorgon City, Tiësto, Diplo, Disclosure, SIDEPIECE, Ytram, Illenium, BRONSON, CamelPhat, Kaskade and so many more. Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser just signed an order sealing the fate of Coachella and Stagecoach for Spring 2021. The decision was made due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Kaiser relayed the message via tweet and added, “We look forward to when the events may return.” Although Coachella has yet to formally announce the cancellation or new dates, it seems the momentum has already shifted to Fall 2021. Mayor of Palm Springs, Christy Holstege, previously stated, “We’re hoping that those events will be rescheduled to the Fall of this year.” Just recently, Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez was reportedly in talks with Coachella and Stagecoach producer Goldenvoice to help create a site for mass vaccinations. Stay tuned for more info.

On January 30th at 4:30 am, SOPHIE died in Athens, Greece where the artist had been living. She was 34. Record labels Transgressive and Future Classic said in a statement, “True to her spirituality, she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be with us.” Born in Glasgow, Scotland, SOPHIE was introduced to electronic music at an early age. The artist’s father shared cassettes full of electronic music and they would go to raves together. These formative years were instrumental in solidifying SOPHIE’s passion to become an electronic musical artist. SOPHIE began to make waves in the European club scene of the early 2010s. After meeting with Dux Kids, a duo comprised of A. G. Cook and Danny L Harle, the artist became involved with the PC Music label and their artists. 2013 saw the release of SOPHIE’s first single “Nothing More to Say.” The house track featured the prototype sound of what SOPHIE would later explore in more unconventional methods across trap, ambient, and hyperpop genres. This evolution in sound received more recognition on the track “Bipp” which made several top placements in year-end lists across a variety of publications. This track and other singles from this time would eventually be part of the SOPHIE’s first compilation album PRODUCT which featured tracks “L.O.V.E.” and “Hard”. In 2018, SOPHIE released her debut album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides; a daring feat of avant-pop, industrial, and electronic music. The album garnered the artist more attention and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album. The song featured singles “Ponyboy” and “It’s Okay to Cry” while the song “Is it Cold in the Water” would be later remixed by Flume and Eprom and featured on the former’s Hi This is Flume mixtape. SOPHIE also continued to innovate with incredible collaborations and production/songwriting credits on tracks with Charli XCX, Vince Staples, Kim Petras, Cashmere Cat, Arca, and Madonna. SOPHIE also contributed music to the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack and recently started a new duo project with Juliana Huxtable called Analemma. An outpour of support and grief have come from various artists and colleagues of SOPHIE. This includes statements from Christine and the Queens, Sam Smith, Rina Sawayama, Kelly Lee Owens, SG Lewis, and more. SOPHIE’s representative wrote in a statement, “At this time, respect and privacy for the family is our priority. We would also ask for respect for SOPHIE’s fanbase, and to treat the private nature of this news and sensitivity.”

The producers’ departure from their distinguished musical worlds has brought forth a new wave of musical exploration outside the realm of ODESZA and Golden Features. The electronic supergroup perviously shared, “BRONSON was born out of a need, almost subconsciously, to push our creative boundaries and build something bold and free of any expectations.” Taking that notion a step further, BRONSON Remixes N°.2 invites Hayden James, HAAi, obli, Prospa and Patrick Topping to remix tracks from their collaborative album. “DAWN” featuring Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, “KEEP MOVING,” “CALL OUT,” “KNOW ME” featuring Gallant, and “HEART ATTACK” featuring lau.ra. are completely reimagined with remixes that range from dark and haunting to deep and melodic. With coronavirus (COVID-19) and its variants lingering over festival season, the Electric Daisy Carnival makes its necessary adjustment. Organizers say they have taken their time with this decision and exhausted all options, but September is the best bet for keeping safety a priority. In a thread of tweets, EDC Mexico states (translated): Unfortunately, due to the global situation, we will not be able to carry out our festival on its initial dates. That is why we officially postpone EDCMx to the second half of this year, with its new dates being September 3, 4 and 5, 2021. Just recently, it was reported that Coachella is hoping for a Fall 2021 comeback. Meanwhile, Electric Forest has been seeking out alternate dates for later this year — and, unfortunately, Ultra Miami has reportedly has plans to cancel altogether. These festivals have yet to make official announcements. EDC Mexico tickets will remain valid for the new 2021 dates. See more info and get tickets here. EDC Mexico

Beginning with a barely perceptible melody and some soft drums, Point North introduces the song with the lead vocal, “searching for a lifeline…“ The song blends BTSM’s electro qualities with Kayzo’s hard-hitting metal crossover, not to mention Point North’s fitting vocals. Already with a firm nod of approval from Martin Garrix, a collaboration and a release on his STMPD RCRDS, Osrin takes ‘Highway’ to EMI Sweden. Written back in the summer with ‘Left To Try’ vocalist WILHELM, this breezy record sizzles with a colourful top-line and dynamic beat. He shares: “Highway’ was made on the release day of my last song ‘Left To Try’. Wilhelm and I were gonna meet up at his studio to celebrate the release of ‘Left To Try’, but because of all the good energy we had; we ended up jamming to an instrumental idea I had laying around on my computer. We made this uptempo, energetic song back in May 2020, so for us it has already served as a theme of our summer, and we’ve been so excited to release it. For me, the demo of ‘Highway’ is connected to so many summer memories. When we made the track, the mood was very relaxed. We also had two of our friends stopping by to hang out in the studio, it was just good vibes overall. The song came about very naturally, and we even recorded all the vocals with our friends in the room, which to me makes it feel even more genuine. When we wrote ‘Highway’ we just wanted to make a tune we could blast during late nights in the car, cruising the highway.“ Check out our premiere of ‘Highway’ right here.
