On “Tarantino,” Steve Aoki & Timmy Trumpet modernize the classic surf guitar riff made famous via Pulp Fiction. Aoki’s mesmerizing electro beats combined with Trumpet’s eccentric horn licks and STARX’s hard psy stylings set off a vigorous revamp where Aoki’s Rave Royale concept comes into full view. “Tarantino” is the first single to be revealed from Aoki’s forthcoming 6OKI – Rave Royale EP, which promises six collaborative songs alongside accompanying music videos, due out on Dim Mak this fall. Steve Aoki says, “It started with 3OKI, 4OKI, 5OKI, & now 6OKI. The series is about my club & festival roots – songs that go off live & serve ravers in the front row! Covid-19 halted live shows, but I’m still making tunes with that live energy.” Timmy Trumpet adds, “Working and touring with Steve is always WILD but making this track was something else! We wanted to capture the craziness of life on the road in one track so people can party wherever they are in the world right now.” There’s more on the was from 6OKI so stay tuned! Listen to “Tarantino” below.

Such is the case with both Toronto Is Broken and Deuce & Charger. Both prominent dancefloor acts have started their own labels in the last year with the goal of releasing exactly what they want and it’s paid off in spades. In the case of Toronto Is Broken (TIB), he’s released increasingly interesting and complex work since he began his YANA imprint with artists like Richter, Aktiv and Nvrsoft and it seems his forthcoming album Clare will live up to that standard and beyond. “Always In Motion” is the third teaser single from the album but it’s also a reprieve of the electric energy TIB and Deuce & Charger created together on their last collab track, “Pressure.” Fans shouldn’t expect the new track to be a copy of “Pressure,” however. While that was a classic and super-clean dancefloor banger, “Always In Motion” is much more experimental. Both Toronto Is Broken and Deuce & Charger have dabbled in inserting rock vibes into their work before and TIB especially is a known metalhead. That rock side has historically shown itself more in terms of composition and vibe, however with “Always In Motion,” it’s right there in the listener’s face with the fast, furious guitars in the intro. They pair with the opening beat in an interesting way, sort of halting at every other kick. The effect is something similar to many metal intros (read: the theme tune to Metalocalypse), but there’s also an industrial element to the synths brought in to marry the metal and D&B. The very in-your-face intro also includes Becky of D&C’s vocals hitting right away and while they smooth out the rough edges of what is bound to be a cracking track, that intense energy never wanes throughout. As the first drop gets going, the guitars fade out and a fast, heavy dancefloor roller emerges with the intense synths taking over for the erstwhile guitars. You won’t miss them; there’s still lots going on and even with lots of beautiful melody provided by the synths and vox, that high energy metal sound is with this track until the very end. Toronto Is Broken is keen to usher in a new era of sound for himself and his label with this new upcoming album and there’s nothing like a palette-cleansing metal mashup to show fans he means business. Similarly for Deuce & Charger, with this track they’ve shown great diversity of style. With always in motion, Toronto Is Broken and Deuce & Charger have proved that the dancefloor can sound like anything it wants, as long at it sounds like a heap of fun. “Always In Motion” drops this Friday, October 2 and can be pre-ordered or pre-saved here. As the live music industry continues to adjust to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Bonnaroo is looking ahead. The festival normally takes place in Manchester, Tennessee during the heat of summer, but these unforeseen circumstances have shifted dates into September. Bonnaroo announces new dates and says, “Stay tuned for info on lineup, camping + more.” Originally scheduled for June 2020 before COVID, it was shifted to September 2020, and then to June 2021, and now September 2021 as there is still too much we don’t know about how the pandemic will affect live events next year. In order for Bonnaroo to continue as planned, organizers also encourage ticketholders to keep their tickets for the new 2021 dates if possible. Refunds are available for those who can’t attend. Bonnaroo returns September 2 – 5, 2021. Fingers crossed. Bonnaroo 2021

The group’s last album was 2015’s Peace Is The Mission, and the follow up has been rumored since 2018. As it turns out, the rumored title of the album turned out to be completely true, though it was originally scrapped. Now five years later, Major Lazer is prepared to drop what could be the final Major Lazer album. Whether any of Major Lazer’s recent singles, like “Oh My Gawd” or “Lay Your Head On Me,” will appear on the album is unclear, but likely. More information is surely coming soon with the release just over three weeks away. In addition to the new about the album, they’ve announced a run of drive-in shows to celebrate the release. With stops in California, Texas, Ohio, Georgia, and North Carolina, fans will have a number of chances to see Major Lazer live before the end of the year. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am local time.

Soundtrack by Twitch, the platform’s music library, begins rollout today in its beta stage. The new feature boasts a vast library of songs from independent artists. All of the music is cleared for worldwide listening during live streams. That means no mutes, no strikes — just music. Twitch shares: We know how important music is to your creative process, and have heard how frustrating it is to understand and navigate the complex and evolving music ecosystem. Soundtrack gives you a curated collection of rights-cleared music and integrates with your streaming software to separate your audio sources, allowing you to keep your channel safe while you create compelling content and grow as a creator. This won’t fix the problem DJs are having with mutes and strikes when playing licensed music, but it’s a huge step in the right direction toward a more seamless music streaming experience on Twitch. Florida has dropped all COVID-19 restrictions on businesses, per an executive order from Gov. Ron DeSantis. Moving forward, the state can reopen and operate at full capacity — that means indoor and outdoor venues, bars, and clubs are all fair game. “Every business has the right to operate,” DeSantis said. “Some of the locals can do reasonable regulations. But you can’t just say no.” San Francisco, on the other hand, is taking a much more reserved approach. Mayor London Breed recently announced a new JAM permit, which allows businesses to apply to host live music events in outdoor spaces. Venues with parking lots or other outdoor areas are welcome to apply here for free. Breed said, “Arts, entertainment & nightlife businesses are at risk of permanent closure due to COVID-19. To help these businesses survive, we’ve created a streamlined & *free* permit to support safe outdoor entertainment at places…”

The VR technology, backed by both Forbes-listed billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z’s music streaming service TIDAL, is showcasing a series of exclusive performances within Sensorium’s alternate universe. Guetta says of the partnership: Sensorium Galaxy is going to take dance music and events to the next level so I’m really excited to come aboard! Whilst digital events have come a long way in the last months, I’ve not seen anything that comes anywhere near close to this. VR lets us create a new form of art. But it can get close. In the new Call Of Duty: Warzone Season 6 update released last night at 11pm PST, players could purchase the new season battle pass, which includes loads of collectibles like emblems, gun blueprints, vehicle customization, and vehicle “wartracks,” essentially car horns. Included in one of the wartrack packs is an EDM edition, with Skrillex’s “Bangarang” and “Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites” and Tiësto’s “Party Time” with SWACQ. While the wartracks provide no tangible advantage in the game, they allow players to personalize their gaming experience, and now EDM fans will be able to push teams to the blaring, harbinger sounds of Skrillex or Tiesto. What a year this has been. Season 6 is available for download now if you haven’t done it yet.
