Queen’s Gambit was without a doubt one of the biggest, if not the biggest, new shows in 2020. Never before has chess been so engrossing or enthralling to a wide audience, but it was due in large part to star Anya Taylor-Joy’s magnificent performance. EDM fans, though, might have found the star strangely familiar. In a total blast from the past, the answer is here: Taylor-Joy starred in the video for Skrillex’s “Red Lips” remix by GTA. The music video first dropped Mar 5, 2016, before her big break as the main protagonist in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split later that year. Now, she’s in one of the biggest television phenomena of the year. Check out the video again below if you’ve forgotten! This article was first published on Your EDM. SoundCloud has launched its 2020 SoundCloud Playback, the platform’s annual year end review. In addition to spotlighting music that the global community (and you personally) streamed, liked, reposted, and commented on the most, SoundCloud goes crate digging, surfacing more of the 250M+ tracks on the platform that reflect the emerging music and trends that took over the internet in 2020. Artists Rising Mexican trap artist Natanael Cano, buzz-worthy act 100 Gecs, alt/pop standout Beabadoobee, and and genre-defying Afropop talent Rema rose to the occasion and became some of the most listened to artists of the year. Culture As the globe began to quarantine, SoundCloud experienced a huge surge in creativity pouring into the platform — a 50% increase in uploads from March to April. So far, creators have uploaded 524,734 tracks with titles or tags related to the pandemic. DJ Sets DJs shifted their focus from live shows to online performances. RL Grime‘s 9th annual Halloween mix secured the #1 spot for the top DJ set this year, with 546K streams in less than one month. Also, Diplo delivered us with Corona World Tour DJ sets, available on SoundCloud. Check out the 2020 SoundCloud Playback here and get your personal 2020 Playback here. From the creative mind that brought us “Playboy” and “Throw It Down” with BLOSSO, YØUNGBLØØD continues his hot streak with new singles “ROLLIN'” and “Nosebleed,” both featuring Damian Simmons. Also, a new collab remix with jistix, for UZ‘s “Fire.” Instead of writing up one production over another, we thought an artist spotlight would be more suitable with everything the LA-based talent has going on. After releasing on Nightenjin and Electric Hawk this year, YØUNGBLØØD is heading into 2021 full force. Read and listen along as we check in with YØUNGBLØØD — and hear the momentum in play out during his annual New Year, New Blood: IV mix, which airs tonight on Nightenjin’s Twitch channel. The 1 hour 40 minute mix, chock-full of IDs, releases tomorrow via SoundCloud and Audius. Let’s go! Background check! When did you start producing and when did you become YØUNGBLØØD? So I began producing EDM back in 2014 by making prog house but I didn’t start making trap or using the YØUNGBLØØD name until about 2016. I discovered EDM actually through Breathe Carolina and Martin Garrix but I eventually found a love for Flosstradamus and Yellow Claw that brought me to where I am now.
Describe the YØUNGBLØØD sound in your own words…
We started calling my sound “designer trap” or “designer bass” I think at some point this year haha, but essentially I think of this project as a place to make music that I personally love listening to while pushing my musical boundaries to create something both cohesive and unique. I have a ton of music already slated to come out early next year and I still have plenty more to release beyond that including an EP that I really feel will reshape people’s image of my music and the YØUNGBLØØD project. What can we expect from YØUNGBLØØD in 2021? You can expect more music than I’ve ever released ever before as well as consistent streams and hopefully some shows in the summer (again, pandemic permitting). I’ll be putting out at least one EP if not two along with plenty of singles. I’m also planning on putting together a special pop-punk side project with some people I’ve worked with in the past to let me revisit my roots of when I really got into performing music. I also have a ton of collaborations with various artists like Maces, PR!CE, Banana Phone, Hearsay, and plenty more that I’m excited to show everyone. Anything else you want to plug? YES! I’ll be debuting my annual mix; New Year, New Blood: IV in a stream this year! I’ve teamed up with Nightenijn, Electric Hawk, Trillvo, Baked Up, and the Arcadium Project to bring a very unique stream lineup filled with custom visuals and stacked with IDs. I’ve brought PR!CE and Maces along to help round out the lineup and the stream will debut on Dec. 30 at 6pm PT/ 9pm ET on the Nightenjin twitch. Sama was performing in a separate area from the mosque at Maqam Nabi Musa (believed burial site of Moses) on Saturday night when she was illegally arrested, according to the petition. An attack by a group of young protestors had occurred, who threatened attendees and ultimately stopped the show. Footage quickly spread on social media, as well as misinformation about Sama and her event, which only fueled the fire. Violent reactions and personal attacks on Sama continued — and now she’s in custody, unlawfully, per the Change.org petition. (Sama) was illegally detained by the Palestinian Authority on the 27th of December 2020. On Tuesday 29 December a judge decided to extend her detention for 15 additional days because ‘techno music is not part of Palestinian heritage.’ Those asking for Sama’s release believe she’s being used as a “scapegoat and held accountable for a crime that did not happen and one that she certainly did not commit.” To back it up, she had written approval to organize and film the production via the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism. Sama Abdulhadi and the organizers of the concert may not have realized that this type of music was unsuitable for the site and its historical, religious and cultural associations, yet it remains that the Ministry of Tourism bears full responsibility for taking the decision to allow the concert to take place. The petition is asking for Sama’s “immediate release and respect for cultural and artistic freedom and rights by the Palestinian Authority.” Sign here.

With his particular brand of beautiful melodies, toned down vocals, slow tempo, and more, his vibe is all about positivity and making his fans feel good. Thankfully, 2020 is nearly over, but that doesn’t mean that the hardships we faced this year are going to automatically be over. Still, it will be nice to finally put this dumpster fire of a year behind us and at least try to mentally start fresh in 2021. While we all come up with New Year resolutions to better ourselves or at least get back to some semblance of homeostasis, you can listen to San’s “goodbye 2020 set” and get your emotions in order. The iconic festival has created an unprecedented experience featuring performances by 28 of the best dance music artists across four stages in 27 time zones. With just two days remaining until the most anticipated NYE in recent memory, Tomorrowland is offering a glimpse into the technology behind its digital festival. Bringing the digital venue known as NAOZ to life requires a massive team, which is why Tomorrow has enlisted in 200+ professionals in 3D design, video production, gaming and special effects. Live performances, fireworks, laser shows, and a realistic festival crowd of 950,000 virtual visitors, each with their own attributes, await — including 65,000 virtual flags of over 193 different countries. NYE 2020 Live Stream Guide: Tomorrowland, ABRACADABRA, Beatport & More To make the magic happen, Tomorrowland built two large green-screen studios to record all the artist performances, one in Belgium and one in Los Angeles. The studios had to be modified to create an environment that allowed enough room for the festival’s creative team to operate in – with all cycloramas (infinity-walls) being 6 meters or higher, at least 8 meters wide and at least 8 meters in depth. On top of the 17 4K ultra-HD cameras, 152 virtual cameras were created, resulting in a total of 160 hours of footage. Go behind-the-scenes with Tomorrowland here to get a better understanding of the process. Tomorrowland NYE tickets are still available here. During a recent Q&A on Flava D’s official Instagram account, the UK garage / grime / bassline producer spilled the beans on their forthcoming collaboration. It didn’t take long for the internet to take notice and the screenshot to circulate. “Collab with skrillex that would be insane,” one user said. Flava D followed up the prompt with, “Funny you say that….” and made sure to tag Skrillex but make it as small as possible. The producer has kept busy in 2020 with a steady flow of new music, including “Secure the Bag” for the Crucast Vs Night Bass compilation, “Now or Never,” “Mesmerise,” and more. Meanwhile, Skrillex has been working in studio with DJ Scheme, Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs, The Beach Boys, Mike Einziger of Incubus and more — with rumors of an Avril Lavigne collab. We’ll definitely keep an ear out for this one. See below. Skrillex x Flava D

Now, almost a year later, she’s recruited a collection of artists including Rezz, Richie Hawtin, ANNA, and more for the Rave Edition, a collection of 11 tracks remixed. Except for tracks “4ÆM” and “Before the Fever” every song from the original release will be remixed on the new version, notes Rolling Stone. “So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth” and “Darkseid” remixes by ANNA and Hawtin, respectively, have already been released with the rest scheduled to drop on January 1. Rezz shared a teaser of her remix yesterday which you can listen to here. Check back in a couple of days to hear the full project revealed!
