The common thought between many industry professionals right now is that we have to weather the storm so we can see the sunlight at a later time, rather than try to fight against it. That is, while COVID-19 is still a present threat, throwing shows is simply irresponsible, even with recommended safety guidelines in place. But what about going beyond those guidelines? Elements might have an answer. Elements Lakewood Festival, originally scheduled for the weekend of September 25, is cancelled. In its place will be the mini-fest In My Elements which advertises music, from Maceo Plex, DJ Tennis, and more, and mindful activities. However, the festival also has one of the most rigorous safety procedures we’ve seen any festival implement with advance- and on-site COVID-19 testing and more. According to the website’s “2-Part Testing” info page, “3-days prior to the retreat a PCR Active COVID-19 test, provided by Rapid Reliable Testing, and Ambulnz, will be available at designated locations in NY, PA, and MA. A nasal swab test will be administered by licensed medical technicians at locations provided. Samples are brought back to a NY or NJ lab and results are delivered in 24-48 hours. An infection mitigation coordinator is available to offer support and assistance.” Once attendees are approved, they’ll make the drive to Northeastern, PA where they’ll be submitted to another round of on-site testing. “Testing will be administered by licensed medical technicians, with on-site medical services provided by ParaDocs. Guests must arrive by car by between 11am and 2pm or 4pm and 7pm. Vehicles will be quarantined 20ft from each other while awaiting testing. All guest will have their temperature taken and receive a nasal swab PRC COVID-19 test. Tests results will be given within 30 minutes to 1 hour of arrival on site. Restrooms will be disinfected after each use with guests directed along dedicated lanes and facilities for every 10 cars.” In addition to all of this, the festival also describes other preventative measures in place:
You can read the full safety procedures here. None of this is to say that the chance of contracting COVID-19 from In My Elements is reduced to zero, it is not “corona proof.” But it’s safe to say that no other festival right now is implementing this level of scrutiny and safety for its attendees. You can find more information and tickets to the event, if you feel comfortable going, here.

Odesza and Golden Features teamed up for the collaborative new project BRONSON and dropped their first two singles two months ago. Since then, the project has been fairly quiet, except to promote the video for their track “HEART ATTACK” and vinyls for the release. Now, they’re back with their next single, “DAWN” featuring Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. BRONSON share how “DAWN” came together: “Creatively, we respect Orlando (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) so much. When we started the writing process for “DAWN”, it was with the intent to fill in the gap of what was missing on the record. We came to him with an initial idea for the track, and in turn, he listened to parts of the record, made sense of its themes both sonically and conceptually and started to write over what became what “DAWN” is now. “Not only do the lyrics provide this renewed sense of hope, but his vocals compliment the tone and energy of the song perfectly – “DAWN” is a song meant to take you on a journey and explore various concepts and emotions of the record. We couldn’t think of a more fitting song to end the album with.” The full song tracks in at over seven minutes, a sweeping overture that ends up as more of a spiritual experience than anything else. As the final track on the album, it’s sure to be a transcendent moment. Unfortunately, the album has been pushed back to August 7 from its original release date of July 17. It’s still available now to pre-order and pre-save digitally and pre-order the physical LP at the official BRONSON store. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Odesza & Golden Features Project BRONSON Releases Brand New Single Via https://www.youredm.com/2020/06/30/odesza-golden-features-project-bronson-releases-brand-new-single/ The first thing that pops up that’s different on Erich Mrak’s new single “Girls” is that it’s tagged as “pop.” Anyone who’s a fan of Mrak will know that he’s just about as far as an artist can get from pop music, usually landing somewhere in the intersection of hip hop, trip hop, dream trap and ambient music. But pop? Well, why not. “Girls” clocks in at only around two minutes but it manages to pack in a lot of pop cachet to that time, and most of it comes from the upbeat, sort of funky synth melody. It’s got a bit of an “Uptown Funk”-meets-Chromeo vibe to it, with a beat that’s kind of a bop. All that said, there’s definitely another side to “Girls.” The vocals on the track, despite all that pop, still have Mrak’s characteristic dreamy, ambient vibe to them. He’s taken another step up on the auto-tune in order to make the vocals sound even more distant and robotic. There’s no hint of rap here either; all the vocals are sung and it’s a very melodic vibe. The lyrics themselves, however, are classic Mrak. With all that pop synth and ambient sound design floating around, it might be easy to get into a groove with “Girls” and not notice the lyrics, but soon enough they appear out of the fog of pop and present themselves as a stark, direct contrast to the upbeat music around them. The lyrics are contemplative, emotive and a little bit morose, with the chorus asking, “why are girls always breaking your heart?” In two minutes, Mrak’s extraordinary lyrics are able to tell a detailed story of a relationship in peril, possibly due to mental illness and miscommunication. Even couched in a shiny new pop format, Erich Mrak will always cut to the core of the human experience both through his lyrics and the vocal tones he uses. While “Girls” works as an emo-pop anthem, Mrak’s work will always tell a deeper truth. “Girls” is out now and can be streamed or purchased by clicking here. Just as the music industry has taken a major hit during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, music publications have, too. Thankfully, Mixmag’s online content will continue, business as usual. Resident Advisor reached out to Nick Stevenson, managing director of Mixmag parent company Wasted Talent, for comment: “Due to the global pandemic, Mixmag’s print magazine was paused in April and will remain paused until we bring it back next year.” “Although the print magazine makes up just a small part of our revenues we are all immensely proud of it and we look forward to its return. Until then, Mixmag continues to reach over 100 million dance music fans every month through daily digital, social and video content from our 16 international Mixmag offices.” Mixmag is a publication we’ve always looked to for music and information with utmost respect. We wish the best for everyone affected by these sudden and difficult changes. Read some of the reacts below (and more here).

Ty Dolla $ign, Kanye West, Skrillex, & FKA twigs’ collaboration “Ego Death” is officially out tomorrow. Ty Dolla has been teasing the track, with recent posts on Instagram and Twitter slowly revealing each collaborator on it. It also appears he removed all his tweets (apart from replies) from before June 27. Whether Skrillex’s recent purge of his Instagram was also due to “Ego Death” or something larger is up for more debate. The track was leaked as recently as four months ago on Reddit, though there are clips of the song being played out as early as January 2019, so this has definitely been a long time coming. Tomorrow is finally the day — 9am PT!

She’s played Ibiza, Boomtown, Let It Roll…you name it, she’s dropped a set there. Since the lockdown, Jaxxon started a regular interview show on her Instagram and YouTube called Harriet Jaxxon Locks Down. Jaxxon really should be just as well-known in the US but if you’re coming from the UK these days, US promoters really only book artists who’ve released tracks, and now there’s the event lockdown which will last until at least early 2021. Luckily, that was next on the agenda for Jaxxon as she’s just released her first single on Drum&BassArena called “The Sound.” Now US fans can hear what everyone in the UK has been curious about for at least two years: Harriet Jaxxon’s production sound. As listeners will see in this guest mix, Jaxxon’s track selection is really diverse so it was really anyone’s guess what kind of style would settle on for her first track. The answer is, not surprisingly in hindsight, a diverse and complex one. Jaxxon is classically trained and so “The Sound” is really less about a specific style and more about composition. It’s clear that she really took her time to create and layer bars of sound so while very ravey, fun and very much drum & bass, “The Sound” is almost orchestral in its construction and that makes all the difference when blending so many sounds here. It’s a truly comprehensive, solid track that pays homage to all the “sounds” in the drum & bass “sound.” In her spicy guest mix for Your EDM, Jaxxon unconventionally presents “The Sound” front and center and then mixes it into some more dancefloor hits like Metrik’s “Ex Machina” and Io Fitzroy’s “Red Line.” Then things get progressivele darker and more amen-y with The Prototypes, DC Breaks and Skanita. The 28-track mix runs the gamut of liquid soul like Charlotte Hanning to heavy leftfield stuff like Halogenix. This is what Jaxxon is so good at: all these styles and she makes it look effortless, just like the construction of “The Sound.” While no one’s sure of an end to the event lockdown in the US, it’s great that in the meantime artists are reaching across the pond with more and more releases. With Harriet Jaxxon joining that brood, it’s more than likely that when things do open up, US fans will be seeing her soon. In the meantime, there’s this fabulous mix and, of course, “The Sound.” “The Sound” is out now on Drum&BassArena Records. Click here to stream or buy. Track list for the mix is below.

Stocks are are currently on the up, pushing the platform over the $50 billion mark. Spotify’s shares, known as SPOT, rose 10% in value last Friday, according to DJ Mag, adding $4 billion to Spotify’s overall market value and $2.6 million in public value. Spotify currently reigns as the most popular global audio streaming subscription service with 286 million users, including 130 million subscribers, across 79 markets. With this news, Spotify seems to have quite an edge on its competition as well, which includes Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL, YouTube, SoundCloud, Pandora, Deezer and more. Recently, a campaign launched calling for Spotify to increase royalty payouts, especially in light of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the artists affected by it. More on that here. Source: REPORT: Spotify Now Valued at $50 Billion Via https://www.youredm.com/2020/06/30/spotify-valued-at-50-billion/ A little under two weeks ago, in a memo obtained by Rolling Stone, Live Nation laid out a variety of changes and updates to existing policies that aimed to protect its own bottom line. Most egregious of them, and one that received the brunt of the media attention, was an addendum that stated if an artist cancels a performance in breach of the agreement, the artist will pay the promoter two times the artist’s fee. Such a penalty was unheard of, and even considering the state of the industry as it currently stands, it’s not right. In a new interview with Pollstar, Charles Attal, co-president of Live Nation subsidiary C3 Presents, described the memo as a “stale document” and said that the language around cancellations in particular has been excised from all agreements. “In retrospect, [that language] should not have been in there,” he said. “We’re not going to jam any artists. It doesn’t need to be in the deal terms, and hopefully we don’t have to deal with it.” “First and foremost, our job is to work for the artists, to branch into new territories, bring new business development to up-and-coming acts, and showcases for headliners to perform for huge, diverse audiences and develop new fans,” Attal said. “These [festivals] take years to develop, and that’s our job. We are here to work for the artist. That’s it. We’ve been doing this for years, and it would be impossible without our great relationships with the artists.” “We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from the artists,” he continued. “We’ve heard them loud and clear, we’ve revised it, we’ve gotten through it with them, and we’re already booking shows, with confirmed acts for 2021.” Attal also addresses the issue of events obtaining insurance next year, which is a huge issue since they’re likely going to require pandemic insurance as a line item, and it’s going to be quite a bit more expensive. He said they’re “working through that, it will take a few months to figure out. Premiums have gone up and we’re dealing with it.” He went on to say they’ll “make sure the artist is happy and taken care of.” You can read the full report on Pollstar here. Digital Mirage might be impeccably curated and Rave Family Block Fest might have the numbers, but this lineup is really something else… This Friday, July 3 at 7pm PT/10pm ET, Radio.com will be broadcasting exclusive (that means new) sets from: Deadmau5, Disclosure, Flume, Major Lazer, Odesza, Porter Robinson, Rezz, RÜFÜS DU SOL, and Toro Y Moi. Any of these artists could easily sell out major venues by themselves, and having them in one place is unreal. Unfortunately, the virtual concert is only scheduled to last three hours. That means between 8 artists, each of their sets will only last approximately 22.5 minutes. But even still, with a lineup this strong, we don’t mind the short set times. The virtual concert will be broadcast across all Radio.com Alternative stations on Friday, July 3 beginning at 10PM ET / 7PM PT. You can also listen on the RADIO.COM app. During the broadcast, Radio.com is encouraging fans to help raise funds for voter access through their partner When We All Vote — a non-profit, nonpartisan organization on a mission to increase participation in every election and close the race and age voting gap by changing the culture around voting, harnessing grassroots energy, and creating strategic partnerships to reach every American.

The upcoming single is easy on the ears and insanely repeatable, so we’re marking it down as an instant hit. As the tracklist reveals, it’s a YTRAM production — which spells out Marty backwards. Although Martin Garrix is one of the most recognizable names in dance music, that doesn’t deter him from experimenting with alter egos YTRAM, GRX and AREA21. We expect nothing but quality records pumping through these projects for years to come. Watch below or jump to 31:40 to hear Bleu Clair & YTRAM – “Make You Mine” featuring RA.
